LEADERSHIP/SUCCESS
BOOKS
I’m interested in putting soul back into work. These writers are
too.
The
Servant: A Simple Story about the True Essence of Leadership,
James C. Hunter
I’ve enjoyed reading this book again and again. We’ve used its leadership
model, an inverted pyramid, in our Success Coaching class. It puts
love as a verb describing behavior into the business setting and
champions it. While the model is based on Jesus as a leader, it
easily crosses doctrinal lines.
Invisible
Leadership: Igniting the Soul at Work, Robert Rabbin
Rob Rabbin sings to the anarchist that lives in me. He is a revolutionary
thinker and writer. He is also the soul of compassion and belief.
I love this book!
Leading
with Soul: An Uncommon Journey of Spirit, Lee G. Bolman
and Terrence E. Deal
Another repeat performer: I’ve read it at least twice. It’s written
in parable form and tells the story of a man who has lost touch
with his soul and finds it with the help of an extraordinary teacher.

MONEY
BOOKS
Here’re some of my favorites among the books we read when we were
designing The Money Class.
The
Energy of Money: A Spiritual Guide to Financial and Personal Fulfillment,
Maria Nemeth, PhD
Maria really gets how people’re hooked by the subject of money.
She’s traveled the road with the bumps and potholes. And she’s masterful
at asking the right questions to uncover what’s really going on:
it’s not really about money.
The
Seven Stages of Money Maturity: Understanding the Spirit and Value
of Money in Your Life, George Kinder
Here’s another book about wise and fruitful living masquerading
as a book about money. Well, we’re really interested in money, right?!!
And we are!
The
History of Money, Jack Weatherford
This book is absolutely fascinating. Jack Weatherford is a cultural
anthropologist and his look at the how’s, why’s and what’s of humans
and money is enlightening and entertaining. We shape this thing
called money and it shapes us, sometimes a lot more than we realize.
Rich
Dad, Poor Dad, Robert T. Kiyosaki with Sharon L. Lechter CPA
This little volume is a classic bestseller on the topic of how to
get rich by making your money work for you. I resisted reading it
for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it when I finally did. It
really should be required reading for teenagers (and their parents).
The
9 Steps to Financial Freedom, Suze Orman
This is another bestseller that is a wonderful primer for money
understanding and management. This would be another great book for
teenagers and their parents.
Money
Harmony: Resolving Money Conflicts in Your Life and Relationships,
Olivia Mellan
Beliefs about money create lots of conflicts in our lives. Olivia
helps you uncover those beliefs and other myths and find ways to
create money harmony with yourself and other people in your life.
I especially valued the chapter on Money Myths and the stories about
various styles of handling money.

OTHER
GOODIES
These are books I love and appreciate.
Bird
by Bird, Anne Lamott
Anne
is a phenomenal storyteller, a writer and writing teacher, and a
quirky, funny, delightful human being. This book is both about being
a writer and about living life. She does both very well, not perfectly,
but extremely energetically. Fun, fun!
The
Reconnection: Heal Others, Heal Yourself, Dr. Eric Pearl
This is the extraordinary story of a young chiropractor who found
himself healing his patients by laying his hands on them. It is
touching, inspiring and irreverent. Dr. Pearl accepts this gift
and he doesn’t take anything too seriously. A delight!
Kitchen
Table Wisdom: Stories That Heal, Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.
Dr. Remen is a consummate storyteller and a human being of profound
wisdom and compassion. Each chapter of this book is a story about
human discovery, courage, pain, love, integrity and power. I never
tire of reading it.
My
Grandfather’s Blessings: Stories of Strength, Refuge, and Belonging,
Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.
More, more, more beautiful stories from Dr. Remen. Give yourself
a gift. Get one, or better yet, both of these books. You’ll laugh
and/or cry every time you read a chapter. You will be moved. I guarantee
it.
